Called To Serve...Instant Replay

Here is what the scene looked like last night!

Called to Serve

Today my brother opened his mission call!

Trevor’s friends came to find out where he would be going.

The family gathered around, minus my parents who are still in Iowa until Wednesday, to see where he would be called to serve the Lord.

We Skyped my parents in and put them on speaker phone just in case.

Trevor opened his called and read:

“You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  You are assigned to labor in the UTAH SALT LAKE CITY Mission.”

HOORAY!  Congrats T!  How exciting is it to be chosen to serve right in the heart of the LDS Church’s headquarters!!  Surprisingly, Utah isn’t all LDS.  Only 60% of the state is Mormon and only 50% of Salt Lake City is Mormon.  There is still a lot of people to share the gospel with.

Let’s eat cake!  (These aren’t what I had in mind when I ordered them.  The one on the left was supposed to be spaced out like the missionary name tag is and Latter-day should have a hyphen.  The one on the right the lines were supposed to be closer together, many more stripes, and vertical.  Not to mention the writing on it isn’t even.  Target cakes taste good but don’t always look so good.)

Trevor, we are so proud of you for making the decision to devote two years of your life to serving the Lord.  The people of Utah, Nevada, and Wyoming need a strong spirit like you to spread the word of the restored gospel.   You will do awesome!  Love you Teaspoon!!

Flash Back to July

Today I am at the cabin and finally have a chance to breathe.  There is nothing like not having any responsibilities and just enjoying some time off in the fall leaves.  So I am catching up on blogging.  There is a lot to tell…I feel like I haven’t had the chance to just blog like I used to all summer long.

On July 23rd I joined my family for a day at the lake.

Max even came and wore her bathing suit.

We played on the “beach”, my nieces and nephews play Pretty Pretty Princess with Josh,

we went tubbing,

and I attempted to water ski.  That didn’t work.  The dead fish scared me and I wasn’t strong enough to get up.  I have only got up wake boarding once, at Lake Powell, and have never had luck again.  BUMMER!

The next day we went to the 24th of July parade.  Max loved it…as seen by barking at EVERY horse walking by.  Tell me how embarrassing that was to try to keep her from barking when the parade paused with all the horses in front of us.  :)

That night we all went to the Emerson Drive concert at the SCERA.  It was great!

Look how cute my mom was wearing a cowboy hat!

I love when my parents come out to visit!  Sure wish they would just move out to Utah.

Next up…Girls Camp!  Throughout all my teenage years I never once attended a full year of Girls Camp.  Frankly, I was petrified.  I had no clue what to expect.  Oddly enough…it was so much fun, despite it raining each day.

I love working with the Young Women.  They are such great girls!

We spent every night around the camp fire.  We sang songs, we laughed, we cooked, we cried…

We even had girl day!  We did facials, made a wedding dress from tissue paper, and painted our nails.  Hey!  Camping isn’t too bad!

The best thing that came out of it is watching the girls become better friends.

July was a great month…it is always nice to think back at all the fun and memories we make.

Friday's Friendly Fight

I love a good debate!  Especially when it ends with a hug and ice cream :) That is why I decided to start Friday’s Friendly Fight.  Each Friday I will bring up a topic.  Feel free to jump in the conversation with your thoughts and feelings.  Then at the end of day, we will all be friends and have seen each others view on the topic. (If you have suggestions for a topic, let me know!)

Here is the topic today:

A few weeks ago I went to Seven Peaks with my sister, brother-in-law, two nieces and a nephew.  Look how cute they are!  We had a blast playing in the sun.

Before we get into the debate, let me share a little story with you…don’t drink while you read this story…it may come out your nose.

First of all, take a look at these slides.

My cute little nephew wanted to go on these slides.  His sisters were too scared to go with him and mom and dad didn’t want to go.  So I played the best aunt card and took him on the yellow slide…nice and easy.

Check out his form…arms and legs spread wide open.  So much for my instructions at the top, “Cross your feet and arms!”  He loved it.  I also liked it but the wedgie at the end just ruins it all for me.  I am not talking a little wedgie either…I am talking full on the entire back of your suit in your crack wedgie.

Unfortunately when I hit the bottom Austin wanted to go on the blue slide.  Well, I am not a chicken and I DID have to live up to the best aunt status so of course I took him on it.

I went second in case he got too chicken and didn’t go down.

Look at my cute suit!  It is from Diviine Modestee.  (Check out that link… I am practically famous!)

Well that cute suit did something completely unexpected.  It wasn’t so modest in the end…not just because of the wedgie factor either.  When I got to the bottom of that fun blue slide, I was so concerned about picking my big ol’ wedgie that I didn’t notice the right side of my chest hanging out!  That’s right…the suit rode right up my body and out popped my boob.  And not just a little…there was full on nippledge!  After I realized I was turning this family water park into a nude beach, I pulled my top down and stepped out to greet my sister, my brother-in-law, their three kids, the lifeguard, 2 random men, and a lady.

I thought my sister and brother-in-law were going to lose it.  I laughed it off but I wouldn’t say I was embarrassed.  I mean “Oops! ha ha” but not like “I have got to get out of here.”

Next we were headed for the wave pool.  Aww….laying and relaxing in the sun…with about 200 kids yelling all around…eh!  Well, after about 7 attempts I finally hopped up on my tube and headed out into the water.  (Note: I have no arm muscles I swear!)  Once we were out there I tried to adjust my bathing suit.  You see, clear tubes and a butt in the hole can sometimes not look the cutest.  In the process of trying to adjust myself, I fell out of my tube.

GREAT!  The waves had started, I am out a little in the water, and now I have to try again to get back in the stupid tube!?  Each time the wave would come I would try to catch the low part so my feet could touch and I could jump back up.  About 10 attempts later I got up…but was caught between, “If I continue to pull myself up I will lose my bottoms,” and “I can’t get down because I will never get back up.”  I gave myself one more boost and up and over the top I went!  GRR!  I can’t get up on this dang tube!

Finally after several more attempts I got myself up.  Unfortunately there was only about 6 more minutes of waves left.  PS…they go for about 15-20 minutes.  Once up I was wasted!  I didn’t have anymore energy left.

As I was soaking up the sun at last, I looked over and saw a mother laying in a tube with her sleeping child on her chest.  Now this wasn’t any sleeping child…it was a tiny little baby.  She was in the deep end (my guess is 8 feet deep) of a 400,000 gallon wave pool with a tiny little baby.  Not to mention there are tons of kids around and four feet high waves.  One mistake and that tube could flip.

So here are the debate questions:

**Is this mother putting her child in danger by having it out there?
**Should the lifeguard prevented this?
**If you would have seen this would you have said something to her, the lifeguard, or other authorities?

Ready…Set…DEBATE!

Birthday, Parade, Fireworks, Oh My!

I have been so busy this month that I feel like it just began.  Here is a quick half a month in review:

July 2–Hubby’s b-day.  I bought him some new clothes and a leaf blower.  I know that sounds like a weird present but he asked for it and how can a girl turn down a man that just wants to work in the yard. We went to his favorite restaurant to celebrate, Outback.  I didn’t know what the fire code was so I didn’t bring any candles…he is getting up there ;) Our lovely friend and Outback owner, Jeff, did provide Adam with 1 candle to make a wish on though.

July 3–This year because the 4th was on a Sunday Utah mixes everything up.  Although the observed holiday was the 5th, Stadium of Fire (the nations largest 4th of July celebration) was held on the 3rd.  I just made for a three day weekend of celebration rather than a two day weekend I guess.  We went to the Stadium of Fire and had great seats…right next to ______.  Don’t worry, he was far enough to the side we could see over his head!  It was a wonderful night filled with fireworks and CARRIE UNDERWOOD!  I have loved Carrie ever since seeing her on American Idol.  Her concert was GREAT!  One of the best I have been to.  Plus, unlike the Jo Bros she actually sang…I mean there was not any lip syncing…this is a rarity among concerts now.

Plus…we got the privilege to take Adam’s cute Grandma Sig, my MIL, and SIL.  Minus the traffic getting there, it was a great night.

July 5–Just like every year for the 4th Adam went and pulled an all nighter to save the highly desired shade spots for the patriotic parade.  Just like every year but one, I slept in my bed and woke up in just enough time to make it there :)   Hey!  If I pulled an all nighter I wouldn’t have friends…trust me!  We enjoyed the parade among a hundred or so family members, including two of my sisters and their cute fams.

Please note that the lady you can see wearing the fanny pack in the picture with my nieces and nephews DOES NOT belong to the family.

Here are two of my favorite highlights of the parade.  The llamas, representing Llama fest 2010, and the Provo Temple…only in Utah.

Before the parade started, I went to get a drink of my chocolate milk and guess what I found in it.  MY PALM PRE!  I freaked out!  I did my best to dry it out.  In the end the phone thought the silent switch was flipped and it wouldn’t ring.  Also it thought there was a headset plugged in and when I tried to make a call I couldn’t hear unless it was on speakerphone.  What a pain!

July 7th–Max went in for a little “surgery”.  It was a quiet house while she was gone so we were excited when we could go pick her up.  The vet told us to keep her calm and that she shouldn’t jump.  As soon as she got in the house she took off running toward the bedroom and jumped up on the bed.  Later that night she jumped out of her exercise pen…despite having a sheet clothes pinned to the top trying to keep her in.  My little part gerbil, part monkey, part cat, dog hasn’t stayed calm since coming home.

July 14th–I opened three new positions at Heritage.  My friend Meghan is leaving to start her student teaching and then..have a baby!  I decided to pass on having another full time (no one can live up to Meghan anyway) and have six part time secretaries instead.  That way it will be easier to get shifts filled when someone goes out of town.  Hope I get some good applicants!

July 15th–My parents flew in to Utah!  I love when my parents are in here.  We always have so much fun all together.  As soon as they got here we went to Lagoon.  Unfortunately my dad had to work and couldn’t come.  My sisters brought their kids and we all had a great time.  After a few rides we took all the kids to get dressed up and take old fashioned photos.  Look at how cute they are!

Then we were back on the rides.  After getting soaked on Rattlesnakes Rapids we rode the train.  It is a fun little ride to see the tigers, emus, deer, and whatever other animals can be kept in a cage.  The kids liked it so I can’t complain.

Later in the day I went on Wicked (a straight up then straight down roller coaster), The Colossus (Utah’s first roller coaster), Samuri (a crazy topsy turvy spinning around ride), and many more.  It was so much fun!  Not too many others would go with me…mostly just my BIL Josh and my nephew Austin.  Austin is such a brave 48″!

All in all this has been a wonderful month.  Life as Mrs. Robertson is always fun and exciting.  Just wait until you see what I have planned for the rest of the month!

He Isn’t So Little Anymore

At the end of May Adam, my 3 sisters, and I all went to Iowa to surprise my brother for his high school graduation.  We arrived in Omaha at midnight and then made the 3 hour long drive to my parent’s house in Iowa.  Upon arriving at 3 AM we sneaked into Trevor’s room and began singing the Cougar Fight Song.  (GO BYU!)  I was marching on his bed and singing at the top of my lungs “Rise and shout the Cougars are out!”  Trevor screamed like a little girl and then looked around wondering what we were all doing there.  It was great!P1020680

Bright and early the next morning Trevor had his open house.  In Iowa it is  custom to hold and open house for the graduate.  Friends, neighbors, and family members come to congratulate, look at pictures (usually baby to present), eat refreshments, and wish the graduate good luck.  I am sure part of this is so the graduate can see everyone without them attending the ceremony and have the bonus of receiving presents!  It was fun to be at the open house because I spent a few summers and holiday breaks at my parent’s house.  I know most of the church members who came to support my brother and it was good to catch up with them and introduce them to my husband.

P1020688Note—I am not always a poser like this.  My sister, Lisa, stuck me on the end so she didn’t get the full body shot.  I figured if I was going to be the one stuck on the end I was going to attempt to make my waist look smaller…due to the fact that I enjoy the brownies during the open house.  :D   WHAT!  They were mushy and I could only mush food because my teeth hurt so bad.

P1020684

Can you tell the boys were getting sick of pictures?!

That evening we went to a great Mongolian barbeque restaurant called HuHot…Trevor’s fav!  It is an all you can eat restaurant (of course that makes it a guys favorite) where you pick what noodles, meat, veggies, and sauce you want.  Then you give it to the guy working the grill.  He grills it up and you eat!  Repeat as many times as you want!  It is fun because each time can be completely different.  Note: this was not an enjoyable dinner for a girl who just got braces on a few days before.  After dinner we came home and laughed our guts out watching family home videos from the 80’s and early 90’s.  WOW!

Sunday, after waking up bright and early again, we went to church.  Again I really liked this part because I got to see past church friends again.  I just wish I could have seen all the kids my age who I became really good friends with the summer after high school.  I miss them!  After church we jumped in the car and headed to Trevor’s graduation.

P1020689
We had front row seats…which I am sure automatically made Trevor  nervous.  You see, my family always has a way of finding just the right time to embarrass our family members way more than necessary. :)   It is great!!

P1020691

Trevor came marching in and we yelled his name and I played paparazzi.  Look at how embarrassed he is!  Since my sisters and I don’t live close to him, he isn’t used to being embarrassed in public.  We took care of that QUICK!  With many waves and thumbs up throughout the ceremony we unloaded the years of embarrassment he missed out on.

Just before they began calling the hundreds of names of the graduates they stated, “We pride our school in having an honorable and classy ceremony.  We ask that you hold all applause, whistles, and yelling until the last name has been called.”  Well, after about 15 names there were sporadic “Woot! Woot!”, claps, and cheers.  No one was getting escorted out so I decided we decided we could not let this great opportunity pass without a little family support being shown.  Here is the video…after he walks you can stop it…Adam just kept the camera rolling.

Can you hear the girls in the band?  They yelled too!  See even if my sister and I didn’t yell for him the ladies would have.

After the ceremony all the graduates had to turn in their cap and gown in order to receive their diploma.  WAIT!  We hadn’t gotten pictures with Trevor all dressed up in graduation gear.  My mom tried to get Trevor to not turn in his things so quickly but being a stubborn Pollmann (he must be the only one because the rest of us aren’t that way ;) ) he turned it in anyway.  Well…I wasn’t going to let my brother miss out on taking pictures in uniform and definitely wasn’t going to make my mom miss out on getting those.  So I just went past security and got a cap and gown myself.  (PS…on my way out of the area where the rest of the high schoolers were turning in their things, I walked past a fan and accidently pulled a Marilyn Monroe!  HAPPY GRADUATION BOYS!)

After a little coaxing Trevor put on the graduation garb and we got the cameras flashing.  –Trevor, you will thank me later for that!–  I can’t believe my little brother graduated high school.  I mean, I CAN believe that he did it but I CAN’T believe that both Trevor and I are old enough for that moment to happen.

P1020722   WAIT!  How did I get on the end again!?  See why no one wants to be on the end!  It makes you look HUGE!  I look like I have a huge gut!!

P1020731

Once Trevor warmed up to the idea of pictures, he got really into it.  This one was his idea.  Complete with the Class of 2010 white rose in his mouth.

P1020737

Yeah for the graduate and his parents!

Okay…now Trevor is done with pictures.  Check out his faces in the next few.  My mother is always smiling so nicely.

    P1020741 P1020742 P1020743 P1020744

Okay Trevor!  Just one more!

P1020747

Oh what fun we had!  Trevor is always such a great sport.  Like it or Not.

That afternoon I visited my sweet dog Buster’s grave site.  It was a tearful moment.  My mother and I just stood there and cried.  He was such a great friend and always gave unconditional love.  I wish he would have lived 2 more weeks so I could have seen him before he passed.  I was SO looking forward to Adam meeting him.  Miss you Bussy boy!

P1020755

It says: A heart of gold stopped besting, two shining eyes at rest, God broke our hearts to prove He only takes the best.

Sunday evening we played Uno attack and then finished our laugh fest of family home videos.  Question:  How did we EVER like the styles for the 80’s and early 90’s!?  They were hideous!!  Then we went out back and roasted the world’s largest marshmellows.  They were HUGE!

To end the night, at 2 AM we soaked our feet in the hot tub.  We all really wanted to get in but since it was so late we just soaked and chit chatted.

Again, another bright and early morning on Monday.  We got ready, packed up, ate a delicious French toast breakfast the madre made, and headed out to take that long drive back to Omaha.

It was a short trip and we were all extremely tired afterward but BOY WAS IT WORTH IT!  What an exciting time for Trevor.  I am so glad that we were able to make it out there to share his moment in the spot light AND embarrass him.

CARPE DIEM!

Memorial Day Moments

P1020775

Every year we celebrate Memorial Day the Sunday before so family can be there together to celebrate the lives of relatives who have passes on.  This is also great for Adam because every year he has the SCERA Shell’s first event on Memorial Day evening.

On Sunday Adam and I went to Murray to meet his family for Memorial Day traditions.  We meet the family for a picnic in the park and Max loved playing with the kids and see what food she could find on the ground.  Max especially loves being held and loved by her many family members!

Right next to the park is the graveyard where Adam’s maternal great grandmother and great grandfather and a few other relatives are buried.  We headed over to pay our respects and place flowers on the graves.

P1020776Next we went over a few blocks to visit Adam’s maternal grandparents graves.  All of his aunts, uncles, and cousins were there to see the graves, pay their respects, place flowers, and eat chocolate and fudge striped cookies.  Why do they eat chocolate and fudge striped cookies?  Grandma Burgon loved chocolate and Grandpa Burgon always gave the kids fudge striped cookies.  Grandma Burgon always wanted her family to remember her by eating chocolate at her grave.  I never met either grandparent but I celebrated their lives life through chocolate and cookies with the rest of the family!P1020770

Both graveyard were filled with flowers and people celebrating lives of friends and family members.  Thank you to all those who gave their lives for the freedom of our country, to raise families with high values and standards, and to bring children into eternal families.

No need to fear!  I haven’t disappeared…just took an unscheduled break.  I didn’t plan on that, things were just a little crazy and I went MIA.

Here is what I missed out on telling you about:

**I got frogs!  I know I just got a dog, but I am doing a review on these little guys.  They are easy to take care of and fun to watch.  This would make a great present for kids, especially if the kid want a pet but the parents don’t.  My husband thinks our house is turning into a pet store…BLAH!

**Max is doing well.  We are working on potty training.  Despite being a pet store pup and thinking she was litter box trained, she isn’t really.  Yes, she does go in the litter box, but only when she is in her pen and it is right there.  If she is loose in the house and playing with us, she doesn’t seek out the litter box.  If I am not watching for “potty signs” she has a little accident.  She acts like she knows what she did was wrong but gives me those eyes like, “But I couldn’t hold it!”  It is rough but together we can do it!

She has cute little clothes….mostly dresses.  I did make her a necklace at my bead party.  It is super cute.  If I can ever get her to hold still for a photo I will be sure to show her off.

Max starts puppy classes this week!  Should be fun!

**I have been judging dance competitions.  This has been a really fun and enjoyable thing!  I love watching different dances, choreography skills, hearing what songs are chosen, and seeing what people think a good costume choice is.  I love judging the dances and giving helpful tips to encourage the girls to become better dancers.

**My little Iowa buddy passed away on May 4th.  Buster was my good pal.  He an I did so much together…go for walks, chase ducks, eat ice cream, cuddle, sing….he was my shadow.  But alas, he got old and needed to see his big brother.  I am sad to see him go and SUPER sad I didn’t get to see him first, but all dogs go to heaven and it was his turn.  Rest in Peace little buddy boy!  You will be missed and home will be a quiet place.

**My bead party went really well!  We had a lot of fun, made some really great pieces, and ate some tasty food!  Here is a peek in cause you missed out…I include links for recipes–

Thanks Watchin’ Out for a great Ladies Night!

**Mother’s Day was full of sun,….about time Mother Nature!…, flowers, family, and food.  Adam and I spent the day with his mother, aunt and uncle, cousins, and 2nd cousins.  We went to Temple Square in Salt Lake and attend Music and The Spoken Word.  We then wandered around and enjoyed the GOREGOUS flowers before heading out to a family lunch.  It was a fun day that totally wore us out.  Here is a little slide show of pictures I took:

Pinnacle Award

My husband has got to be the most caring man out there.  He really would rather do service, help a stranger, or put a smile on someone’s face over anything else.  Let’s just say, the saying “Opposites Attract” really is true!

Last week, Utah Valley University honored Adam with the Pinnacle Award.  This is an award that UVU gives to someone for outstanding service in the community.  Only an alumni can receive it.  He totally deserved it…however, he was a little embarrassed.  Again, he is usually on the giving side, not receiving.

Pinnacle Award--sisters

All of my sisters and brothers-in-law were there to celebrate this special day for him.  It is always so great to be around all of them.  I love family!  We swiped the award to get a “Vanna White” picture.

Congrats Mr. Robertson for your hard work and dedication to Utah County.  I am proud to be your wife!
