Max Got Her Hair Do Did!

Last week we took Max to get a bath and her hair trimmed.  She has had really itchy and flaky skin so I thought I would try taking her to get an oatmeal shampoo before taking drastic steps and having her tested for allergies.  I called the groomers and explained that she was itchy and I would like a good shampoo used on her.  I also said that she didn’t really need a hair cut but maybe just a booty shave and eye trim.  Dogs gets their booties shaved so they can potty and not do this:

Well when my husband took Max to the groomers I called to tell him I wanted bows in her ears.  (Adam hates bows in her ears so I knew he wouldn’t ask for them :D )  I told him about the booty shave and eye trim.  A body trim was included in the price so we decided she could get a little trim .  I was thinking with scissors….well…they used the clippers and gave her a nice hair cut.  Look at our little girl.

P1020777

She looks so skinny and little.  So much for the fluffy puppy we were taking in for a little trim.  Oh well!  She is still cute and the cut will be nice for summer.  Notice the little bow!  (You can only see one because her other is is flopped back.) Cutie huh!?  Yeah well Max had them out 15 minutes after we got home.  Boooo!

As soon as we got home guess what Max did!?  She ran right to the litter box, put all four feet in, and went pee pee.  HOORAY!  (If you don’t know what I am talking about, read THIS.)

Then look what she did next…

P1020785

By George! I think she’s got it!

Well…she has the poo poo part 100% at least.  She goes to the litter box 95% of the time.  She puts all four feet in 20% of the time.  I just don’t get why she doesn’t go all the way in no matter business she is doing.  DIVA!

Hey!  Anything is better than on the rug, couch, bed, floor, pillow…wherever else a dog could think of going.  I guess I can’t complain too loudly.

Also last week, we decided to teach her to sleep in her exercise pen rather than in our bed.  You see, because we are gone during the day she sleeps a lot.  Then when we get home she has too much energy and doesn’t want to settle down.  She was walking all over the bed, licking our faces, biting and pulling our hair, and digging at the covers all while we are trying to sleep.

One night at 2 AM I had had enough.  I just wanted to sleep.  We put her in her exercise pen (the original place we tried to have her sleep until she wouldn’t stop barking and we gave in and let her sleep with us).  She barked and cried for hours.  We wanted to go in to the kitchen and get her just so she would stop and we could try to get some sleep.  We knew though if we did she would think it is okay to bark because she would eventually get her way.   So, we sucked it up, forfeited our sleep, and just let her bark.  She barked for five hours….and then it was time to “wake up” to go to work.

We tried it again the next night.  This time we started with her in her exercise pen.  FIVE AND A HALF HOURS later, she finally stopped barking and went to sleep.  She woke up a half an hour later, barked some more, and then went to sleep.

Here is the good news!  Now we can put her in her exercise pen at night and she won’t bark.  She just lays down and goes right to bed.  We have even brought her to bed a few times.  She comes in and lays right down.  GLORIOUS!

We ARE the master’s of the pack…not Max!   {insert evil laugh}

As you know I have the cutest little puppy ever!  Max is so fun and full of energy.  She loves to help me on the computer…
P1020758and loves to play dress up!
P1020768

In fact she has so much energy I don’t get much sleep at night because she is constantly moving around or in last night’s case barking at random times in the middle of the night because she heard a noise.

Adam says he and Max have a love hate relationship.  I just love Max too much to “hate” her so I think I have a “lots of love and some frustration” relationship.  Because Max is still a puppy she does puppy things—nips at you to get you to play, chews on anything she can get her teeth into (shoes, purses, socks, rugs, wall molding…), and having trouble sleeping at night.

During the day Max is in an exercise pen.  There is enough room for her food, litter box, bed, and for her to play.  Here is a little video of her in it.(Sorry it is sideways!  It is still funny though.)

That is right.  My little puppy is part monkey!  She learned to climb out of her exercise pen.  I came home from work two days in a row and she was just running around the house.  Now all the sides have plexiglass on them so she can’t climb.

One of the puppy things she does bugs me the most…going potty in the wrong spot.  (At the beginning of May I blogged about it HERE and just after we bought her in April I talked about it HERE.)  We are training Max to go potty in a litter box because Adam and I are gone during the day.  We don’t move the litter box because we don’t want her to get confused.  However, she still doesn’t get it.

Here are some examples of what she does:  (pictures are not of Max but other puppies who have potty issues)

Max puts her front paws in the
litter box but goes potty outside of
  the box.

Sometimes Max doesn’t even go IN
the box but stands just outside of it.

Max knows where the litter box is
but only uses it when I put her in it
or when she is home and in her
exercise pen and can’t get out to
go anywhere else.  When I am
home with her it is like she is too
busy to go to the litter box and just
stop where she is and goes.  Even if
the litter box is in the same room as
  her.

Max has gone potty on almost
  every rug in the house.

I wish Max would catch on to house training and go potty in the litter box like a good girl.

Any tips, tricks, or helpful hints of how to help Max learn that the only place to go potty is in her litter box would be very appreciated!

What do you think?  Do I scrap the litter and go with one of these indoor pet pottys?

Or maybe just give up on house training and keep these little babies on her?

What are you wishing for today?

No need to fear!  I haven’t disappeared…just took an unscheduled break.  I didn’t plan on that, things were just a little crazy and I went MIA.

Here is what I missed out on telling you about:

**I got frogs!  I know I just got a dog, but I am doing a review on these little guys.  They are easy to take care of and fun to watch.  This would make a great present for kids, especially if the kid want a pet but the parents don’t.  My husband thinks our house is turning into a pet store…BLAH!

**Max is doing well.  We are working on potty training.  Despite being a pet store pup and thinking she was litter box trained, she isn’t really.  Yes, she does go in the litter box, but only when she is in her pen and it is right there.  If she is loose in the house and playing with us, she doesn’t seek out the litter box.  If I am not watching for “potty signs” she has a little accident.  She acts like she knows what she did was wrong but gives me those eyes like, “But I couldn’t hold it!”  It is rough but together we can do it!

She has cute little clothes….mostly dresses.  I did make her a necklace at my bead party.  It is super cute.  If I can ever get her to hold still for a photo I will be sure to show her off.

Max starts puppy classes this week!  Should be fun!

**I have been judging dance competitions.  This has been a really fun and enjoyable thing!  I love watching different dances, choreography skills, hearing what songs are chosen, and seeing what people think a good costume choice is.  I love judging the dances and giving helpful tips to encourage the girls to become better dancers.

**My little Iowa buddy passed away on May 4th.  Buster was my good pal.  He an I did so much together…go for walks, chase ducks, eat ice cream, cuddle, sing….he was my shadow.  But alas, he got old and needed to see his big brother.  I am sad to see him go and SUPER sad I didn’t get to see him first, but all dogs go to heaven and it was his turn.  Rest in Peace little buddy boy!  You will be missed and home will be a quiet place.

**My bead party went really well!  We had a lot of fun, made some really great pieces, and ate some tasty food!  Here is a peek in cause you missed out…I include links for recipes–

Thanks Watchin’ Out for a great Ladies Night!

**Mother’s Day was full of sun,….about time Mother Nature!…, flowers, family, and food.  Adam and I spent the day with his mother, aunt and uncle, cousins, and 2nd cousins.  We went to Temple Square in Salt Lake and attend Music and The Spoken Word.  We then wandered around and enjoyed the GOREGOUS flowers before heading out to a family lunch.  It was a fun day that totally wore us out.  Here is a little slide show of pictures I took:

To sum things up—life is going by quick and I am enjoying it!  Despite not having much time for sleep or the gym, I am happy and doing well.  Hope to be around more often!

Anything new with you?  Are you doing well?

Welcome Home, Max!

On Saturday, my husband surprised me with the conversation of a dog.  (See!  Wish List Wednesday DOES work!)  After we discussed what we would like and Adam laid down some terms, we went on the search for the perfect pooch.

We went from pet store to pet store, looked at adopting a rescued dog, and checked out the local classifieds.  Finally after a whole day of not falling in love with any dog in particular that fit all the terms…no shedding, hypoallergenic, and a puppy…we went back to the first store to refresh our memory.

That is when we saw HIM!  The cutest little puppy ever!

Buying Max

This is Max…the newest member of the Robertson family!

He is a bichon frise and yorkshire terrier mix.

plus equals

P1020582

You can call him a Bichorkie (Bee-shore-key), a Yo-Chon (Yo-Shawn), or a Borkie (Boar-key).

He is the tiniest little puppy with the biggest personality!  Weighing in at 1 lb 14 oz., he fits in one hand.  He loves everyone and wants to kiss and cuddle them all.  His favorite place to rest is on a shoulder or thop of a chest just under your chin.

Here are some highlights of his first weekend at his new home.

too little

He tried to climb up the steps, but he is just too little!

so excited to see us

As soon as he sees us come in to the room, he gets so excited!  Maybe he thinks we can’t see him so if he peeks his little head through the bars we will notice him :)   He even jumps!  Sometimes he will just pick up his back legs so he is hanging on by his front paws!

P1020578

He had his first accident…but just barely missed the “potty place.”  (Okay, I know it is kind of gross, but it was a first in our house! :D )

P1020583

The proud dad gave him his first bath!  He was so good.  No crying or squirming.  Good dog!

Life in our house has been filled of laughter and excitement.  We love our little Max!

Today we went to Max’s first vet appointment.  Not only did we find out he was beginning to get a little ear infection, but our boy Max is not a boy at all.  In fact HE is a SHE!  When the Dr. told us that, both Adam and I looked at each other with dropped jaws.  The paper on the window at the pet store said male AND the paperwork they sent home with us said male.

Our cute little Maxwell “Max” Robertson is now Maxine “Max” Robertson :)

We aren’t upset.  We love this little tiny cutie no matter what.  The only difference will be “Good Girl” instead of “Good Boy” and she might start to wear a bow or two in her hair.  Adam was quick to veto the pink tutu idea.  Tutu or not we are happy to welcome such a happy little, no shedding, hypoallergenic, no barking sole into our home!

When you wish upon a star….

What should I wish for this week? ;)
